Summary of Issues Raised during the Discussion at the end of the first day

  • Who is in a policy network? Who really matters in these networks, and to whom?
  • The role of serious gaming as an interface between policy and modelling – a social system “flight-simulator”.
  • How are we preparing our society for complexity? Can policy makers think in “complex” ways? Do we need to prepare our students in different ways?
  • What can we “sell/offer” to policy makers? More than examples?  Tools for thinking about the world?  Offer possibilities? Insight into successful policy?  What counts as success?
  • What links should there be between policy at governmental levels and those at business levels (in particular global level)?
  • Where is the boundary between science and politics, or is there no such boundary?
